2018 MSAN Conference ReCap
Our Opening Session was kicked off by Dr. Kim Benton, Chief Academic Officer for the Mississippi Department of Education with inspiring words on the immense progress being made in education and student outcomes in Mississippi.
Dr. Laurie Smith, Education Policy Advisor to Gov. Phil Bryant and Executive Director of the State Early Childhood Advisory Council gave encouraging words about how workforce development and education in our state are aided by afterschool programs.
Workshops on 21st Century Community Learning Centers, internal and external evaluations, mobilizing partnerships, family and community engagement and safety filled the morning activities with lots of great information.
After lunch, attendees enjoyed the awesome hands-on experiential labs. The labs covered activities for STEM, financial literacy, literacy lesson planning and social-emotional learning. We closed the day with regional meetings that provided feedback on the conference, network and next steps.
We would like to thank all of our participants, partners, and sponsors. We are looking forward to another fantastic conference for next year.
